An Ant classpath can only contains : JARs files ZIP files directories So you have to check your classpath configuration, it seems that it contains C:\uiunit\log4j.properties, probably instead of C:\uiunit\. Turns out I did in fact have aload of garbage jars on the classpath. Class files aren't JAR archives, so the classloader throws an error when it tries to load classes from it.
