The low level formatting worked superbly. I don't have time to stuff my HDD into the freezer everytime it displays an error message. It only occurs when I do large data moves. I am running Windows XP Home / SP2 on an IBM ThinkCentre, 160 GB hard disk (I can follow up later on the details.) I can view all the files on the Mac and they all work just the way they're supposed to. ERROR 1439, will appear many times while restoring for the same reason. But it seemed to work for me. I recently visited VIA's website and downloaded their latest Hyperion Drivers for WinXP and another program called IDE Accelerator. DVD Region Free and Any DVD by Slysoft will do this! You can see how write-caching is handled for a particular volume by right-clicking on the icon for the drive in the "Disk drives" subtree of the Device Manager and selecting the Then use windows to format it again, start up the services and it will find the ipod and ask you to restore it.
